Video script:

Andrew Rondeau here from WeBuildYourBlog.com and if you have visited my site over the past few days you will have seen I have changed the free guide you can download by opting in.

I’ve called it “The Top 7 Mistakes Blog Owners Make (and how to fix them)” and it basically does that. It goes through the mistakes most bloggers make and I tell you, show you how to fix them.

I thought I would show you the guide. What it looks like and here it is.

You’ll see it’s not just a pdf. There are lots of graphics to make it easier to read and digest…rather than just being lots and lots of text.

I just wanted to try and make it easy for you to read, digest and take action upon.

There are 121 pages in total but don’t be put off by that. As you can see each page is small.

Here on page 59, I’m sharing the mistake about website loading speed.

Many owners don’t know how to improve their site loading speed and I go through and show you how to resolve that.

Google are using website loading speed to rank your site so it is important to get your site loading as fast as possible. Get this guide and yours will.

On page 84, I talk about another mistake…poor content.

You will have heard about poor content time and time again due to Google’s algorithm changes like Panda.

If you have duplicate content, spammy backlinks…your site will be penalised by Google.

So here I go through how you can improve your site’s content and Goole will rank your site higher and higher.

That’s all I want to show…I’m just teasing you. I want you to opt-in and download the guide.

With every email you get after opting-in, you can unsubscribe.

So you could download and unsubscribe immediately afterwards.

That’s it – hopefully, you’ll like the guide.

All feedback on the guide would be really appreciated…good or bad.

And I’ll see you all very, very soon. Bye, bye.

Needless to say the mistake missing in this list is choosing a poor web host from the on set. It can ruin everything for you and then you have to start looking into a transfer. Quite stressful.

      dindindara

You obviously didn’t download the guide as I do cover hosting – so it’s not missing.

Andrew, I think mistake number 6 is the most alarming. Technical insufficiency, amateurish design and even typing errors I can tolerate, but poor content I don’t suffer gladly. Even closing one eye on it doesn’t help. When it happens it’s probably the most permanent feature of a blog, other things can be corrected.

    • Andrew June 6, 2013 at 12:50 am #

      Beat

very good point about poor content being a permanent feature. Never really looked at it like that. One to remember before you hit that publish button!

      Beat,

Absolutely agree with you. Poor content is the biggest turn off. Content is the primary reason you visit blogs so that has to be top notch.

Thanks for posting this Andrew, really useful

  3. Debbie June 6, 2013 at 8:55 am #

I’m with Beat on the poor content Andrew. Keeping people interested right from the start and every word afterward. The loading I do feel is also very important. I have pulled up many of blogs and if it is taking to long to load I am gone.

Talking first hand your free ebook on these 7 mistakes is packed with lots of help. it is something everyone should read and learn from.

last of all i do want to thank you for keeping my blog running so smooth with all your expertise. I couldn’t do it without you.
    Thanks Andrew,

    • Andrew June 9, 2013 at 12:07 am #

      Thanks, Debbie.

It really does come doen to the content…people do return if it’s great!

Looks great Andrew, I wonder how many I’m making! I’ll be recommending it to my clients and readers, I’m sure everyone can find something to fix and improve upon.

    • Andrew June 9, 2013 at 12:08 am #

      Thanks, Joel.

As long as we admit we are not perfect and we can always learn something…we will improve.

    Hi Andrew,

I haven’t finished reading the guide, but it’s going really fast. I do have to wonder why people are afraid of a 121 page e-book with large text and pictures. I guess fewer people read books these days; on paper, electronically, or listen.

I ditto Beat. Without good content, the rest starts to not matter pretty quickly. Poor content quality is one reason I haven’t accepted any guest post requests yet on my main blog, or any of my other ones to which I don’t write very often. I’d rather have fewer good articles than a slew of mediocre to bad ones. I should consider selling a couple of them.

I invite all of y’all, my blogger friends, to write, but all of our topics are so different that guest posting quality content on each others blogs might be very difficult. If I were to write for any of you, I’d want it to be the best writing I can manage.

    Sherri

    • Andrew June 9, 2013 at 12:10 am #

      Very true, Sherri.

I get numeorus guest post requests and 90% of them are…well let’s say not good enough to be published on my site!

Great to see Andrew is still putting out such great content. This guy is the real deal and has been the real deal for many years.

I always appreciate the help he has given me with good posts and suggestions.

Thanks, Sandhya…I really appreciate your kind words.

Poor content is really a big turn-off for anyone whether it is a human being or a search engine. Many bloggers are not well versed in English and still try to show hoe good they are.

    BTW, I have subscribed.

    • Andrew June 9, 2013 at 12:12 am #

      Thanks for subscribing, Asif.

As you say…it comes down to content. Publish great advice and visitors will return.

  8. Raymond Chua June 8, 2013 at 9:03 pm #

Those who do it in a black hat way (e.g. spammy backlinks) will get penalize sooner or later.

It’s good to keep up with great content and write to the readers instead of google bots.

    • Andrew June 9, 2013 at 12:13 am #

      Raymond,

They will…they may gain some short term benefits…but they will be very short term!

Thanks for the guide, Andrew!!! Very appreciated. To me, the spammy content is the most irritating. Nothing interesting to read, just a collection of links, out-of-context sentences and stuff to sell. I am glad that google now monitors and cleans the spammy website a little bit better. Super slow loading website often test my patience, I go in another tab to look at something else and then I may never return. I need to make sure my site loads fast 🙂 thanks again for your great blog.

    • Andrew June 12, 2013 at 8:14 am #

      Suzanna

You hit on the main points that puts people off (and what I cover in the free guide!).

And I am also very glad Google are cracking down on spammy sites.

Andrew, this is all good stuff. So many of us start our businesses and don’t have a clue about this. I remember 5 years ago setting up a website, and sitting back and waiting for my clients to arrive!

I now accept I don’t have the time or resources to do it, so it’s great to have someone like you to hand a lot of it over to.

    Wendy

    • Andrew June 12, 2013 at 8:16 am #

      Wendy,

You thought that 5 years ago. Many people think the same nowadays!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that.

Maintaining a website and gaining visitors is hard work…part of running a business.

      Great – thanks.

I hope you do more than ‘try’?

Awesome resource! FOR FREE wow, if only I had this years ago! I started with poor content and backlinking the hell out of my sites and they loaded slow as shit! Thank you 🙂

    • Andrew June 21, 2013 at 3:53 am #

      Ben,

You are not alone. I did the same when I started a few years back. Things change and as long as we change with them…we will survive!

  18. Gautham July 13, 2013 at 9:08 am #

Great points I think my blog has quite few problems you mentioned, not sure if I can fix them :/
    Best Regards!

  19. krishna July 13, 2013 at 9:09 am #

    Sincerely, agree with you David,
The crazy thing is that most of us are killing our blogs unknowingly. That is suicide. I’ve seen that case of having too many widgets and i use to wonder why some will put such widgets like tags, recent comments, categories, etc on the widget.

Building an email list is really very important too.

    Thanks for sharing.

  20. Tushar July 13, 2013 at 9:12 am #

I definitely agree with you about all of this actually. Having been blogging now for a number of years it’s been some hard lessons to learn for me with no one actually there to give me good advice. I’m glad you pointed some of these out and I have a few people I’m going to share your post with too.

Thanks for taking the time to point these out.

    • Andrew July 22, 2013 at 8:58 am #

      Tushar

Some of lessons are hard to learn…but we should never look back. Think where you are today and look forward!

      Andrew

  21. michael July 22, 2013 at 12:38 pm #

great post and very helpful, so many people who think they are doing the right thing are not always making the best decision and then their blogs tend to fail because they have the wrong host, domain name or whatever the case may be…be sure to research and know what the best choice is before you start or you will set yourself up for long term failure

    • Andrew July 23, 2013 at 3:14 am #

      Michael

Great advice! Shame so many website owners don’t follow it!

      Andrew

      • Catherine July 24, 2013 at 4:41 am #

Thx for the tips! As a new blogger, it’s really hard to bring people on my blog…Well maybe your guide is gonna help me 🙂
        Congrats for your blog btw!

    Hey all
I have to say I am guilty of putting up a bit of junky content, not intentionallyof course it was when I first started my blog and what I posted… Well let’s just say it’s not my best work. In my option bad content is the worst thing you can do, and I’ve done it *face palm*. Anyways thanks for posting maybe I’ll be able to avoid the other mistakes

    Cheers
