    Hi Andrew,

Running a successful, well read blog is one thing. Monetizing it requires a different skillset.

Thanks for sharing the list of resources.

Not to brag too much, but I’m glad I don’t have to be reading those 😉 This isn’t to say that all, or even most, of my blogs and sites are making tons of money, but overall my online income is something I’m happy with.

    • Andrew September 26, 2010 at 4:43 pm #

      Anne,

      That is brilliant to hear!

I love it when someone is doing exactly what they set out to do.

      Congrats!

I am almost sure that the main reason is that people are expecting to make money very fast. This is driving them in the wrong way and they start spending their time in things that do not make them money. They are just wasting time. The only way is the hard and long way. At least this is how things work online. This is my experience so far.

    • Andrew September 26, 2010 at 4:44 pm #

      Bob,

I think your way is what the vast majority of us experience.

I believe you should build a community before you even attempt to make any money. Otherwise, you’re just talking to yourself; putting a few links on a page. There is no way you can earn money unless someone is there. Even if you get someone, you should focus on getting more people.

Think of it like an army – to defeat another force, would you rather have one soldier or one thousand? One thousand or one million?

    • Andrew September 26, 2010 at 4:44 pm #

      Joe,

Excellent point. I’d rather have one million and crush the opposition!

I’ll definitely enjoy reading these resources 🙂 However, I really do believe that SEO is the real key to making money online, it’s just my opinion, knowing that having your targeted audience find what you are offering instantly makes it much easier to sell, and if you are getting high traffic for pages where you really upsell will increase the chances of getting sales. So it does require commitment and hard work.

    • Andrew September 28, 2010 at 8:13 am #

      Jason,

Getting organic / natural traffic is definitely one-way. It tends to be targeted traffic and you are right if your blog offers what they are looking for…you have succeeded.

Hi Andrew, I don’t yet understand much of the ways on how to make money online from blogging, and I have much to learn. I’m thankful for the way how little by little I’m beginning to understand these things through your site. Thanks for sharing these helpful posts!

    • Andrew September 28, 2010 at 8:14 am #

      Felicia,

I am pleased you keep coming back time and time again. That says to me you want to learn and improve.

      Thank YOU!

My biggest mistake when I started my journey online was to lack patience. I wanted to do all fast, I didn’t have the patience to test and test again, I read a lot before and I was too eager to try all that myself. But after I realized that this can actually work and I began to trust what I was doing, things improved fast. Well this is the short story, I failed miserably many times and probably I will do it again. Is part of the game 🙂

I think we all start off like that, don’t we?

Soon we find out what works but we still make loads of mistakes.

I too, start to learn how to monetize my blog.

I planned if my traffics gets about 1000/a day i will start monetizing it.

Thanks for the great share Andrew.

    Greetings.

    • Andrew October 5, 2010 at 1:52 pm #

      Kimi

I think you should start to monitize well before getting to 1000 visitors a day.

Ya, probably you’re right, but i have an opinion that if a new blog has many ads around, it is obvious the goal of the blog.

Also what i don’t like with some ads code, they cause so many w3c errors, only adsense works well, but it requires a blog older than 6 month.

        Thanks for the reply Andrew!

Good info. Your main point is making money online is not easy and you are dead on its hard work in the beginning.

Getting everything set up etc… But it is a very real reality if you know what you are doing. Lazy people need not apply…..

It takes work, learning on a daily basis, a good niche, keyword research, learning how to drive traffic, yadda yadda yadda…..

But all you newbies reading this if you stick to your game plan and keep at it you can make some good money down the line. Just be prepared to work for it. Nothing comes easy in life and Internet marketing is no different.

If you enjoy what you are doing you will never work a day in your life. I am lucky enough to say I do.

    Great post.

    • Andrew October 22, 2010 at 8:45 am #

      Jay,

You are spot on. It took me over 2 years of working part time (alongside my full-time job) before I could leave the 9 – 5.

Like you…I work almost everyday but I don’t work…if you know what I mean!

I too have made some of the mistakes listed in the various articles, the biggest being my lack of focus and stretching myself waaaaaaaaaay too thin!

I have not settled down and am seeing progress with my “main” blog and am looking forward to continued progress as I learn from the generous successful bloggers like yourself.

    Thanks for sharing

    • Andrew November 17, 2010 at 2:54 pm #

      Gina,

I think we are all guilty of stretching ourselves waaaaaaaaaay too thin!

I wrote an article like those mentioned on my own blog a while back. I am not trying to get rich but I like where I am at and where I am going. If you can avoid some of the mistakes a lot of people make when trying to make money online, good money can be made. I know those articles will help quite a few people out if they are having trouble making money online. Great share.

    • Andrew June 17, 2011 at 5:01 pm #

      Thanks, Meka.

Good money can be made if you have focus and are not easily distracted with all the shiny new ‘gadgets’ that are on offer!

Ok, that is quite a big list … I will check these out.

But I think the number one reason why most bloggers fail to make money is that they choose the wrong niche. They blog about blogging (with all due respect to you, of course).

I mean, people think that just because Darren Rose can make gazillion amount of money blogging about “blogging”, anyone can.

    • Andrew June 20, 2011 at 2:01 pm #

      Very true, Amanda!

Getting the niche right is fundamental. Get that wrong and all futures can be wasted.

This is a great list of resources, I’m really struggling to make more then a few dollars a week 🙁 What is the single most effective method to monetize your site in your opinion? Thanks!
