Google traffic is no longer safe
After the recent changes that happened to google algorithm it became clear that blogs that depend solely on search engine traffic are in danger.
The second best alternative to search engine traffic is recurring traffic where people keep visiting your site more than once and thus grow your traffic exponentially.
That’s why I decided to write a post to tell you how you can increase your newsletter subscribers quickly and effectively.
How to get more newsletter subscribers:
1) Install the wordpress newsletter signup plugin.
Have you ever visited a blog and found a checkbox that says “subscribe to our newsletter” right below the comment box? When you install the newsletter signup plugin your readers will see this check box and will get subscribed to your newsletter immediately if they checked it.
2) Create a contest for your current subscribers.
Email your current subscribers and tell them that the person who invites the largest number of friends to your newsletter will get a gift. This gift can be a free Ebook or any other gift. Make sure you tell those people about all the steps needed to invite someone so that you increase the number of respondents.
3) Change the place of your opt in form.
Experiments were made to find out the effect of the placement of your opt in form on the subscribers rate and it was found that placing your form on the top left of every page increases the number of daily subscribers. Also the light box was found to be a very effective way of collecting subscribers but its problem is that it can annoy your visitors.
4) Write down the number of your subscribers.
If you already have a good number of subscribers then according to the social proof theory writing this number on your blog will help you get more ones. When people find a ghost house blog they quickly flee because they can hardly trust it but when they find a popular blog they stick to it and subscribe to its newsletter.
5) Exchange announcements.
Ask a blogger in your same niche to announce your newsletter to his subscribers in exchange for announcing his newsletter to your subscribers. This action can sometimes bring you hundreds of subscribers in a single day.
Bonus tip
If you sell products then use the Email addresses of people who bought your books. Don’t just add those people but instead send them a message telling them that because they previously purchased your products they can now have access to your free course.
Put the link to your newsletter in the email you send them and many of them will join your newsletter.

I agree.
I feel people become blind to opt-In forms and testing different positions can really hep increase your conversion rate.
Simmeon
True and as Jane says below – best to track which position for the opt-in performs the best.
Andrew
that’s right Simmoen
thank you for the addition 🙂
Hey Farouk
I use a lightbox on my blog and that it gives me the best opt-in rates of any of my opt-in forms.
I haven’t tried moving the one on my blog to a different position but that’s a good idea. I am also thinking of doing some split testing with that opt-in form as AWeber allows you to rotate these.
Thank you for sharing.
Tim
Tim,
Split testing is a great idea – something we all shuold do.
Andrew
hi Tim
you are right, they are known for their high conversion rate. if they don’t annoy your visitors then go for them
I usually change the position of the email sign up form once in a while to test and see which form performs well. Alternatively, placing the forms in multiple places (of course, without annoying your readers), creating unique tracking ids for each of them and find out which ones perform well is a good idea.
Ultimately you can have those that convert well and get rid of those that don’t perform well.
Jane
What position on your blog for your email sign-up, works best?
Andrew
that’s a good practice Jane
because recurring visitors become blind to whatever is static on a blog after sometime
Exchanging announcements is a good idea. Really creates a cross-over of traffic, and there is a possibility of the new readers you find sharing your site with others too.
True, Elena Anne. As long as you don’t exchange annoucements with someone who email spams!
Andrew
thanks Elena
Glad that you liked it 🙂
Wow, an awesome post. I believe what you said about the placement of your optin form because its one of those parts of your blog that you don’t have to play with indeed.
Thanks for sharing
Your are most welcomed Theodore, happy with your comment 🙂
hello farouk
amazing tips.you have done a great research..and the facts and tips are really informative.we have seen many recent changes in Google’s algorithm so getting ranked is a quite difficult task.i really like it when someone subscribes to my blog, it gives me a confidence and boost. thanks for sharing this nice piece of information
Useful tips man. I think a contest will drive more no. of subscribers and yeah the position of opt in form matters a lot. Thanks for the share.
Hi Andrew,
Another great post from you.I support the second best alternative suggested by you. This is the correct way to increase your traffic consistently. It is obvious that, your loyal readers will comeback to your blogs/sites if you maintain the posts/articles as per their expectations.
Thanks and Regards,
Sanjib
These are really great tips to get more newsletter subscriber. It is really very very helpful after panda updates. Thanks for sharing with us
Hi there,
This article is so great,I really enjoyed this tips and I can’t wait to test them in order to imporve my list. Peace!
Getting new subscribers is the best way to promote your blog. Once I had a big issue with this and finalyy i decided to change the place of my opt in form. Then i started getting many subscriptions.
Good tips. I agree that because of changes in search algos we should focus also on other options such as newsletters.
I think that it is also important to build a good facebook/G+ page, where you can have a great contact with your readers. Add this to the newsletter and you are good to go ;]
Thanks Andrew nice post. I think the best way to get quick ways is sharing freebie it might be ebook or tool or anything that creates value. And of course we need to get fair amount of traffic to get them join into our list.
As a blogger myself, I know that opt-ins are very important, but as a reader, sometimes they can be annoying, especially when it’s hard to determine where to close them. Nevertheless, all the pints you mentioned here are very valuable, particularly if your traffic suffered greatly due to Google’s changes in search algorithms.
Great article. Thanks for the help. The quality of your articles makes me come back frequently and check your website for more articles!
I am still trying to figure out how to put a newsleter sign up box on the side bar of my blog. The wp plugin you describe sounds like a good idea. I will look into installing it! Thanks, Suzanne
These are some great tips. I think that giving away an ebook to your subscribers in a contest is a great idea. I am sure they would all be competing and trying to win. In fact it would maybe even work better if you gave away one for the top 5 people who do this. This would keep them competing even longer, even if one person is way ahead in the contest because they know that 4 others will also be getting one. Thanks for the tips guys.
before i just used to have the sign up box on the side with nothing else and used to think when on earth will i get more subscribers. When i went through your article i understood what blunder i had committed. Thanks a lot!
Yes, I see many people making the same mistakes as well. I know I am going to change how I have been doing it now after I have read this post. It seems like these things could really help. It is worth a try at least, right?
I think the placing the kinds in several places (of course, without annoying your readers), creating unique tracking ids for each of them and find out out which ones perform well is a great idea…Thanks for sharing me…
Lisa,
Good point…it’s all about testing and seeing what works.
Andrew
