One Of The Most Important Functions You Can Add To Your Blog

blog-backupI have mentioned this function time and time again…and still people are taking a chance.

Small business owners / blog owners always think it won’t happen to them…only to someone else.

I assume, as you are reading this you:

  • Are a blogger / small business owner
  • Take your blogging seriously
  • Are passionate about your blog
  • Would be very angry if your blog was hacked or corrupt
  • Would be even angrier if you could not restore your blog after being hacked or corrupted

If the above is true then you need to make sure you add this function to your blog:

BACK UP YOUR ENTIRE BLOG

Read my review of the different backup processes you can have in place in this blog post here:

Backup Buddy looks pretty cool, but it does backup to your own server..

    • Andrew March 9, 2011 at 6:40 pm #

      Ben,

You can automatically back up the files to your own server but I wouldn’t.

The best way to use Backup Buddy is to automatically back up the files and send them to a different server…in case the server your blog is hosted on gets corrupt.

    Hi Andrew,

What an important topic to write about – I’ll be sure to share this far and wide. Backups are yet another reason why I had a professional like you (before I knew you) install my blog. It is set up to automatically email updates to him every day.

That backup is in addition to the backups done by the hosting companies.

No matter who your hosting company is hard drives fail on a regular basis and blogs get hacked. An excellent backup process is essential to prevent data loss. Imagine losing all your work!

If you do not have experience setting up backup processes and have never actually restored from a backup if your blog is important to you I highly recommend you have someone who knows what they’re doing handle that process for you. I know Andrew offers that service and I trust him.

      Gail,

Thank you for your support and those kind words about my service.

You are right…it is an important subject…I just wish more people would take action on it.

I learned the lesson of backing up your blog the hard way.
I didn’t have it backed up and I deleted some files by mistake and lost my whole install. I had to pay my hosting service to get my site restored.

    I learned that day.

    Good post

      John,

I do think it takes an experience like yours before most will take action. I am trying to get people to take action before such a situation.

Thanks for sharing your own experience – it can be hard to admit a mistake.

    • Andrew March 11, 2011 at 8:53 am #

      Ron,

Perhaps you should take the automatic route!

Then it wouldn’t matter if you forgot.

I havev trie the Automatic WordPress Backup plugin for backups, but I think the amazoon that hosts the backups have one of the least userfriendly services I have ever tryed. THe plugin will not work until amazoon hav a valid payment method, and I have big problems registering my master card. If the only had paypal, it would probably have been easyer..

    • Andrew March 12, 2011 at 6:55 am #

      Bjorn,

I’ve not used the Automatic WordPress Backup plugin but it sounds like when working with Amazon…it can be troublesome.

I think backup buddy was one I was looking at before, I don’t recall it being that pricey though.

    • Andrew March 13, 2011 at 7:18 am #

      Dennis

Can you put a price on losing all your data and having to start again?

    Hey Andrew,

Backups are so important. I do weekly backups for my website to make sure that if at all anything goes wrong, i won’t lose all my hard work.

    • Andrew March 14, 2011 at 11:30 am #

      Bryan,

I do daily as I normally make some changes to my blog each day.

Great to know you take it seriously.
