You Either Love This Or Hate It

rotating-bannerWhat do you think about my new rotating banner (see above).

Do you hate it, find it annoying and want me to remove it?

Or…

Do you love it and think I should keep it?

I think it’s okay. I’d prefer no banners, but it’s not going to make me avoid your site.

    • Andrew December 1, 2010 at 10:03 am #

      Thanks, Justin.

Hope to see you back then?

    Hi Andrew,
I don’t mind it. In fact, it caught my attention and I watched each one until they started over again.

    • Andrew December 1, 2010 at 10:02 am #

      Cheryl,

I’ve only added 3. I have about 20 in total.

My thinking is 20 could be annoying!

Anything you can do to make your blog stand out in a crowed..then do it. I will be implementing more banners on my site soon also.

True…as long as it is not annoying.

But with the votes so far…the title is true!

You either hate it or love it!

      • Dennis Edell December 1, 2010 at 5:57 pm #

The title has too be true, those are the only two choices. lol

    Hi andrew

I like it and it’s not intrusive. If people don’t like it they can scroll down and just read the post.

Wow you are always coming up with new things over here on your blog. Makes for an interesting visit.

It’s not a bad banner at all, it’s not too flashy or invasive. I like it actually.

    • Andrew December 1, 2010 at 10:04 am #

      Thanks, Carlton.

    Hi Andrew,

It definitely works for me, I gave some Love πŸ™‚

As Antonio said anything that makes your blog stand out in a positive way is a plus. I like the design and it seems to fit perfectly with your blog’s theme, so I say to keep it.

    Have a powerful day!

i think the wordpress logo is too big. it’s like opening a wordpress site. maybe you can play with more colours.

    • Andrew December 1, 2010 at 10:07 am #

      Thanks for your feedback, Fransisca.

This site is based on WordPress and that’s the service I offer…so perhaps big is best?

Can’t say I’m loving the colours of the orange one Andrew, but it does work – grabs the attention. Caught my attention without a doubt, because its the sort of service I may be in need of fairly soon. The $99 in the red “stary thingy” really hits home!

Otherwise, unless you are getting new visitors to your blog (which obviously you are), I sense that viewer fatigue may set in a bit, just like with AdSense for regular blog readers.

    Hope that’s of some help…

    Regards
    Joseph

    • Andrew December 1, 2010 at 10:09 am #

      Joseph

I understand what you mean about viewer fatigue.

I have about another 20 to add and I could increase the time between rotations to a couple of minutes. That way most people would only see one or 2.

      Andrew

      • Joseph Archibald December 1, 2010 at 10:20 am #

Hi Andrew, yup – that option sounds pretty cool. The only problem here being that those who don’t frequent your blog regularly may only see one or two of the services you have on offer via the banner, which may not be relevant to their current needs.

I think I’d want to interchange the banner quite a bit more than say – one time per couple of mins. You’d probably get more click thru and if you had say – 4 changes per minute. And that’s not at all tiring to your visitors.

        Food for thought…

        • Andrew December 1, 2010 at 11:13 am #

          Joseph

I agree – lots of food for thought!

Whatever I do, as per the voting…some will hate it and some will love it!

  9. Alex December 1, 2010 at 2:07 pm #

I can see it’s a close battle between “like it” and “hate it”.
I like it especially because it’s not near the post so I can just scroll down and read the posts without any distractions.
Oh, and I like the effects when changing, js is great.

    • Andrew December 1, 2010 at 2:26 pm #

      Thanks, Alex.

      It is a close call!

    Andrew:

I think the banner is fine. I think it can catch a readers attention without being in your face.

I see that it rotates every 7 seconds. Are you going to test the time frame as well as the ads that rotate?

    Take care!

    – Rick

    • Andrew December 1, 2010 at 7:36 pm #

      Rick,

I might go with something between 30 and 60 seconds and see what reaction I get.

      Andrew

  11. Dennis Edell December 1, 2010 at 5:59 pm #

Neither, although I picked love it. It’s just unobtrusively there. I see nothing wrong with it. πŸ™‚

    • Andrew December 1, 2010 at 7:37 pm #

      Thanks, Dennis.

      Your views have much value.

There’s nothing wrong with banners like these. I liked it – It really caught my attention, that’s for sure.

    • Andrew December 5, 2010 at 12:40 pm #

      Thanks, Felicia.

You views mean a lot to me.

For me, I really don’t know if I will going to love it or to hate it, but then I picked Love it.. The top portion of the banner seems great but the lower portion, I really don’t like it for the reason that I haven’t seen any special on that aside from it is rotating. One thing I really don’t like was the advertisement of wordpress. maybe for me, it would be much better if you just advertise your own blog. This is just my opinion and I hope it is just fine. Thanks and have a great day!

    • Andrew December 5, 2010 at 12:39 pm #

      Thanks for your comments.

I am specifically talking about the rotating banner.

I’m not adverting WordPress as such but all feedback is welcome and I see what you mean…it could be mis leading.

i love this. eyecatching and attracting anyone once a time will think of looking inside it.

      Thanks Vivek.

Well sir, I don’t love it or hate it, but I definitely like it more than I dislike it.

And…if it converts I LOVE it.

    It’s definitely very prominent.

    • Andrew December 5, 2010 at 12:43 pm #

      Rob,

I can understand you not loving or hating it.

      Does it convert?

It does and my intention is have numerous banners…so return visitors won’t see the same one.

      Andrew

      • Rob McCance December 5, 2010 at 3:41 pm #

        Goal met then!

It’s interesting how you are marketing your services on this blog. I like it.

I have not noticed other sites quite as up front with the info.

        • Andrew December 6, 2010 at 9:39 am #

          Rob,

          Up front?

          I suppose I am really!

There are so many people who want to get into blogging (as a business) and I just wanted to help / support people to get going really fast.

There is so much involved in running a blog as a business that doing it all yourself is almost impossible…hence my services.

          Andrew

          • Rob December 6, 2010 at 1:40 pm #

Maybe “up front” wasn’t the best description.

            How about “in your face.”

            LOL.

You would have to agree that the giant rotating banner at the top of your site is at least “prominent.”

            eh?

            πŸ™‚

          • Andrew December 8, 2010 at 9:01 am #

            Oh…definitely!

            And exactly my aim!

            Lol

            Andrew

P.S. I change the rotation time between banners now to 30 seconds.

  16. Kesha Brown December 6, 2010 at 5:24 am #

Hey Andrew, I actually love it (selfishly though as it gave me an idea I can use for my blog!)…I watched the rotation to see what you have there πŸ™‚ One reason I like it is because I could tell it was promoting your own services, not a million other sites’ services AND it’s right upfront and eye catching…hopefully it’s converting very well for you. I’m going to be contacting you separately about feedback on your blog design services…

    • Andrew December 6, 2010 at 9:47 am #

      Kesha

      I’m glad you liked them!

The banners bring in a few clients but most clients come from referrals.

If you provide the best customer service you can (and I do my best!), then customers come back and also recommend you.

I love it. It’s an eye catcher. I like the size of the WordPress logo. It gives you an idea that you’re setting up blog under WP platform.
