There are various ways of getting back links to your website.
One of the most natural ways for getting back links is by focusing on the content of your site, ensuring that it is of high quality.
Plus, it is extremely important to update your blog content on a regular consistent basis and by providing breaking news or latest developments.
If your content is good, it will automatically draw visitors to your site making it popular. Once the word gets out about your site among the web masters community, you are bound to receive many inbound links.
If you have high quality blog posts, others will want to link to it. Google sees this as the most natural way to build back links…so make it part of your link building campaign.
It is always better to follow a natural simulation process while link building.
A few ways to get links naturally:
- Cash in on the love of lists that most Internet surfers have. Whether it is a ‘Top 10 List’ or a ‘101 List’, you can be sure to get visitors looking for these.
My list type posts have been some of my most popular:
- Organizing a competition will also get a number of visitors to your site. You can spread awareness about your competition by asking some of your on-line relationships to promote for you. Plus ask each contestant to promote as part of entry to the contest. Here’s my first ever blog contest. That blog post gave my blog a great kick start with regards visitors and comments.
- Start an online community that will act as a genuine forum for like-minded people to interact with each other, share their opinions and mobilize a cause that they feel strongly about.
- Offer a free service. This will not only add to your goodwill but provide you free advertising as well.
- If not free, provide a special offer for certain sections of customers such as students, middle-income groups, senior citizens, veterans…
- Offer a free download such as an e-book guide and allow others to promote for you…ensuring they link back to your site.
No matter which of the above-mentioned methods you adopt to get links for your site, always remember to keep your eyes open for free links that you can get.
For instance you can get free links by asking or answering a question on Yahoo Answers following it up with links to relevant sources.
Creating a topical Squidoo page, which is back linked to your site are also good link generating methods.
You can also get links to your site by leaving your signature link on an online forum.
Or by commenting on Comluv blogs.

Hi Andrew,
You talk about, “Start an online community that will act as a genuine forum for like-minded people to interact with each other, share their opinions and mobilize a cause that they feel strongly about.” Where do I go to start a forum. this is something i have been thinking about but not sure where to start.
Keep up the great work, when it comes to blogging, because you sure have a lot of great material to make anyone successful by following you advice. thanks again for more great info Andrew.
Debbie
Debbie,
The easiest way to start is with the free WordPress plugin:
http://simple-press.com/
This plugin allows you to set-up a forum on your existing blog.
Of course, you then have to market it, etc.
Andrew
Now isn’t that interesting, thanks for he link.
Link building is one of the most talked about subjects online. people want to know how can they link up with others site (The Legal Way) and build good quality links.
Andrew I think you have laid the grounds out here for many other blogger to follow.
“TrafficColeman “Signing Off”
Thanks – hope to see you again…real soon!
Andrew
Hi Andrew.
I am still new in blogging, I don’t have any other ways for link building yet. Right now, I am joining a link building campaign by a blogger. Where everyone put a list of link in their blog post. I am not sure if that will give me anything but I wish it will.
Thanks for sharing this.
Good luck, Zezebbel – I hope things work out for you.
Andrew
Great ideas about almost effortless link building campaigns Andrew. I’m also thinking about blog contests, though I’m still not sure how to deal with the prizes to be given. All I can say is that Link Baiting seems to be the most effective strategy, as of now. links would really look so natural, and Google loves those kind of links.
Regards,
Jason
Jason,
re: prizes given. Perhaps you could offer your time, expertize as a prize and/or ask other bloggers if they want to sponsor such a contest.
Andrew
Andrew,
I might be stepping on a future parts toes here, but I thought you might want to include the add-on to this tip…..making sure each link has the proper anchor text.
Explaining of course this can only be done when you have some sort of control over the link. 🙂
Dennis,
Good point. I do talk about anchor text in this previous part: https://www.webuildyourblog.com/3243/link-building-campaign-strong-backlink/
Andrew
These ideas would only work on a small minority of sites.
Most sites have no viral potential. Nor do they have the kind of demographic that are likely to link to them.
I have seen sites produce good free “how to” downloads and never get a single link for them.
It all depends on your niche / sector. For example, my accountant is very good, but I will never link to him.
The idea of setting up a community site just to get links is a bit crazy to be honest, though it is a great way to get additional content and more readers via word of mouth. A good marketing ploy, but not a good link building strategy.
Jez,
I must disagree with your comment:
“The idea of setting up a community site just to get links is a bit crazy to be honest, though it is a great way to get additional content and more readers via word of mouth. A good marketing ploy, but not a good link building strategy.”
Have you come across http://bloggerluv.com/ ?
But we are all different and entitled to our opinions.

If you do want to set up a community and are using wordpress, then I would take a look at BB Press
http://bbpress.org/
Its actually produced by the Wordpres guys, so should have a secure future. I integrates quite nicely with WP too in terms of role mapping and single sign on.
I looked at that and SimplePress a while back and went with BB but I guess they both do the job…
Thanks, Jez for sharing.
Andrew
For building links to blogs I think the most effective methods are commenting and guest posting. For niche blogs, I think that you should use Keywordluv comments, article marketing, Web 2.0 properties and guest blogging.
Then of course the ultimate linking plan for any website would involve high interest link bait.
Kathy
What you say is right…just in this blog post I wanted to share some ideas that people may not have heard of or used before.
Andrew
Always a joy to read your articles, and always learn something new about SEO and backlinks! thumbs up!
Cazare
Thanks – I’m glad you enjoyed them.
Andrew
So far I only do blog commenting, bookmarking and a bit of article marketing. I will surely do what you have posted here.
Thanks Andrew! You’re always a big help to my site 😉
Nim,
I’m glad I could be of help.
Andrew
Best way to get quality backlinks is to put quality and unique content on your website so that readers find it interesting and appealing as well and like to share it over various social media channels which helps in improving the search engine rankings of the website and getting quality traffic to your website.
