DoFollow blogs have removed the nofollow attribute that is inherent in blogs especially in wordpress blogs.

In doing so, it allows search engines to pass on ‘link juice’ back to your blog.

Here are articles explaining why it is good to build backlinks using dofollow sites. These collections of articles also contain other tips and helpful strategies on building backlinks. I hope you find this resource really helpful.

Thanks for the list. While blog commenting seems like low hanging fruit, I may have a suspicion that Google discounts some of these links simply by looking at the CSS. Mostly b/c most blog comment links are spammy.. sure they’d discount some relevant, non-spammy links, but it wouldn’t ruin their link graph.. what is your experience on this?

Who knows the answer to your question…I suspect only Mr Google.

    Dear Andrew –

Always been afraid of do follow because of spam.

But when you suggest something, I do it.

    It is time.

Corinne, I’m using only Akismet, and I really haven’t had much problem with spam. I usually get less than a dozen per day, very easy to manage.

Once in a while, the spammers find a hole in Akismet and it will load up the spam, but not very often, and Akismet fixes it fast.

I have similar experience as Dave – not much spam.

I’m always on the lookout for relevant do follow sites but we still cannot underestimate commenting on relevant non do follow sites because the readers on some of those sites will click through to you name link as long as your comment engages them to do so.

And this can actually be better than a link as it is a live user visiting you directly 😉

    • Andrew September 22, 2010 at 8:25 am #

      Totally agree, Caleb.

Don’t just retrict your comments to DoFollow sites – mmix it up.

Great round up of resource there Andrew. I also have posted something about Dofollow blog commenting strategies on my personal blog before (on how it helped me boost my SERP rankings in 2 weeks), and I do believe that they add high amount of impact when it comes to keyword rankings. But I think nofollow attributed links also have its own advantage, it may not pass link juice for pagerank, but it can certainly pass through trust, knowing that they are still counted by search engine crawlers.

      Jason,

I agree – nofollow links also help in some way.
