Useful resources shared, LinkedIn’s a great tool and the connections you make through LinkedIn are generally of a higher value due to its professional nature.

Excellent links, thanks much for them!

Building on Biodun’s comment, that’s one thing users need to know going in. Linkedin is NOT Facebook/MySpace or any of the others; it is professional. Period.

I don’t think LinkedIn is helpful to improve search engine ranking. LinkedIn is just a Wev 2.0 site and we can’t gain high-quality backlinks there.

I read this post a couple of days ago and it prompted me to put some effort into my LI page. Not that it was neglected before, but I could have done more with it. I’m still working on it, but the first thing I did was asking for recommendations from my closer contacts. Well, not the ones which I met once at a conference, but those I have worked with in any capacity, especially previous clients. In two days I got more than five recommendations, mostly from previous clients, who spoke very highly of my company’s work. I would highly recommend revisiting this issue once in a great while. Especially if you are done with a project, don’t be shy. Just don’t forget to return the favor. Writing recommendations is more important than receiving them.
Thanks for the great ideas, and for prompting me to look at my LI page.

        And just a little update.
The first business day I was done with all the updates to LinkedIn, I got a consulting offer. Actually, this is the first time to get a direct offer. LinkedIn is directly responsible for much of my business, but it mostly helped me seek out opportunities. Today, it was the other way around.
I can highly recommend putting all the info you have into LinkedIn, you never know.
