How To Have Your Own On-line Business Without It Costing A Fortune

You may have read my recent post about the “10 Warning Signs an Internet Business Offer is Too Good to be True

While writing that blog post I was thinking about our own sales page for our
Income Blogging Guide Course.

So I did a review of the sales page and the only thing I changed was the pre-heading to say:

“Please Note This Membership Course Has Been Updated To Cater For The Recent Google Algorithm Changes”

Well, that’s true.

With all the recent Google changes (Penguin and Panda) we’ve had to make a few changes. The approach to getting backlinks and traffic has changed.

So let’s compare the “10 warning Signs an Internet Business Offer is Too Good to be True” with our sales page

(You can open the sales page on a new page by clicking here: Income Blogging Guide Course)

1. Offers that look too good to be true.

We don’t say you will make thousands of dollars within weeks.

We do say:

“There are numerous factors that determine how much money you make via blogging. Most of all, how much effort you put in. The “Income Blogging Guide” course is NOT a “get rich quick” course. We don’t and will not promise you will make millions of dollars. We believe you should be able to make $500.00 a month by the end of the 6-month course but we cannot guarantee that as there are so many factors involved.”

2. No money back guarantee.

We do have a 60-day money back guarantee.

We do say:

“If it is not for you, tell us within 60 days of signing up and you’ll receive a complete refund. No questions, no hassles.

3. No contact or personal details.

We have our names, our photos, our email address, privacy policy, disclaimer…

4. Use of big mansions and fast, flashy cars images.

You won’t see any images like this on our sales page.

5. No real description of what the product is.

We tell you exactly what the membership course covers. We tell you the details of each stage – in fact we have a little tour – so you can see the details.

6. Very short limited offers – buy within the next hour or you lose out!

We do have an offer on at the moment. As we provide support via a forum and our personal emails, we do have to restrict the number of active members at any one time to 100.

7. The word ‘secret’ is used far too many times.

We use the word ‘secret’ twice…in the “Copy Writing” stage. I don’t think that is too often.

8. Images of their checks or PayPal accounts with huge amounts of money.

Again, you won’t see any images like this on our sales page.

9. Huge price drops.

During the time we have offered our Blogging Membership course, we have changed the price a couple of times. But the range has only been from $27 to $47.

10. Long sales videos.

We do not use this sales technique.

There is no “silver bullet’ to making an income on-line

This is what we say in the sales letter…

“The “Income Blogging Guide” course is not a quick way to generate some income. You are not going to earn an income on autopilot with no work whatsoever. If you believe that you can make fast money blogging then this is NOT the course for you.

We have never met anyone who has made fast money by blogging.

We simply show you the ‘how to’ and what has worked for us. By the way, the ‘how to’ is NOT by building numerous blogs or copying content from other blogs like other courses will get you to do.

We believe you should be making on average $500.00 a month by the end of the course. But we cannot guarantee this due to the numerous factors involved.”

This sales approach may limit our sales…

…but we prefer to be honest and transparent.

Any feedback on our sales page would be very welcome:

I have the outdated version of your course, may I have the updated version as well, especially on the link building and traffic approach?

Yes…we will be writing to all members.

Hi Andrew, I really like to go and make a business online do you have an idea how much it cost to run 1 single business campaign. I can do the seo work but I have no idea how much it would cost me.

    • Andrew July 13, 2012 at 10:45 pm #

      Dom,

If you did the work yourself, then it’s just the cost of purchasing the domain name and hosting – approx $7 amonth.

    Hi Andrew,
I guess that making an online income depends on how much a person is willing to invest in the first place. We need to invest our time, knowledge, inventiveness and many things in order to make an online business work.

Time IS a big investment. But you don;t get anywhere without hard work!

The problem is…many people work hard on the worng things!

Useful post. You have to be honest with yourself, and at all times you should follow your instinct because you r instinct is usually right.

Very nice points Andrew. I am glad that you are not using any Internet marketing gimmicks to make more sales and only portraying a true picture about making money from blogging.

  7. Jean July 14, 2012 at 3:16 am #

I agree that it is important to lay the facts down straight rather than embellish it with false promises whose transparency is pretty obvious from the outset itself. I have seen those techniques be used far too often and it is good that you don’t use them.

I think there are far too many promises in the on-line marketing side.

You may want to see my latest post!

Unfortunately, these empty promises sell products.

I just don’t want to go down that route.

    Hi Andrew,

This is Sanjib. You have enlightened the brains of innocent investors by posting this article. I have an experience to share here. A friend of mine parted with a good amount to an online site which promised great business immediately after investment. Without checking the credentials he went ahead and it took just less than a month for him to realize that he was cheated royally.Educated people should atleast be watchful before taking a big leap towards business.

    Thanks a lot,

    Sanjib

I think we have all been ‘scammed’ at some point by on-line marketing. They make it sound so easy and we get sucked in!

What about yourself…ever fallen for such schemes?

Usually if you check the oder page and clickbank shows up. That is usually a good sign to stay clear. Paypal is a good processor for quality products.

    • Andrew July 18, 2012 at 8:32 am #

      Tyler,

I agree there are mnay ‘bad’ products on ClickBank.

But there are also good ones…likes ours!

There are a lot of factors involved when you are blogging. No matter how great your writing is, SEO, Social Media, and income streams will always play a role as you manage your blog. You can’t say you will have a fixed amount of money to earn when blogging. It all depends on how well you blog, how well you manage your visitors, and how great of a marketer you are.

    • Andrew July 18, 2012 at 8:33 am #

      John

      …and that’s what a lot marketers WON’T tell you!

Hi Andrew, I would like to ask just one simple question, Does this course show the same usual story of finding niche etc. or there would be something New? Thanks in advance!

    • Andrew July 18, 2012 at 8:36 am #

      Adrian

There is nothing ‘new’ about making a successful on-line business.

It’s about following a proven process that works.

Yes, we do cover finding the best niche for you because without that…you are wasting your time.

      Andrew

  13. cutekavya July 18, 2012 at 11:21 pm #

These are a small number of ideas that you want to consider and do your homework on. When you are trying to find the best one for you, be sure you look for one that you get excited about and that you would be proud to tell others about because this will tell you when you have found one you will love to build your business around.

    Nice tips
    What about your PR update?
I got PR6 on two blogs and Freakify got PR4 🙂 After we got a new and awesome theme redesign !

Well, I managed to factorize and calculate a thing that in this update most of my internal pages were ranked PR4 to PR6 which is really awesome.

According to my view “Google Page Rank is an appreciation to your quality content”

    Hey Andrew,

Are long sales videos necessarily a bad thing? It’s always amazed me how many sites use this tactic. In fact, many sites nowadays make you watch a 20-25 minute sales video before the order button ever appears. It must work or people wouldn’t do it.

    • Andrew August 8, 2012 at 1:51 am #

      Derek

I understand what you are saying but I think more and more people are put off by these longs sales type videos.

I still think most product launches are aimed at newbies / the naive.

It’s very, very hard to make look great a website without any help from an expert. Will never look good… My opinion.

I agree…I believe you can tell when a website has been created/designed by someone who is not sure in what they are doing.

    Hi Andrew,
I mean wow, I have seen all of those sales pitches before… In fact, I was nearly tempted by their claims. However, in life, I abide by the rule that if something is too good to be true, then it probably isn’t. If they claim you can make this much per week or month using their technique, then why would they sell their technique in the first place. Why don’t they just put more time in applying their technique so they can make more money.

    • Andrew September 24, 2012 at 9:32 am #

      Felicia

I totally agree with what you are saying. Shame so many fall for such tatics.

Personally, I think that if writing is your passsion then you’ll put in all the hours needed (willingly) abd enjoy leaping out of bed each morning because you’re doing a job you love……bloggers are such lucky people!!!!!

    • Andrew September 25, 2012 at 9:09 am #

      Emerson

Lucky…only if they are making an income (if that’s what they want!).

I am so glad I came across your post otherwise I would have missed such good points. These points that you have mentioned about making real money from blogging are the real things and not a bit exaggerated. Its nice to see some honesty and not some fakers that claim to make you a millionaire overnight!

Hello Andrew, it’s been a while since I last visited your blog. Hectic schedules have kept me offline for a while but now I’m back. I can see that you have changed the blog design as well 😉

Anyway, to put it in simple writing. I always believe, there is nothing more important than an honest approach to gain the trust of your customers. Obviously you have stressed on that clearly.

I think it’s quite difficult to build a website that will allow you a generous income. It takes a lot of time for understanding how SEO works and how you must optimize your site for particular search engines. But, your article is interesting anyway and it should make people start their own websites. Big up for that!
