New Google Algorithm: What You Need To Know

google algorithmFor some this is old news and for others it will be the first time you have heard about it.

If you haven’t heard, Google recently changed its search algorithm.

In very simple terms, Google has decided to ‘penalize’ the websites / blogs that copy other people’s content.

I recently found a top-performing site that was copying my content (and many other peoples content) and it was ranking very high in the search engines.

Google have put their foot down and said ‘no more’. They are no longer tolerating such activity.

Little Blogging Crackers: Create A Hub-Page Mini-Network

hub page linksIn this little cracker I am suggesting you create a little mini-network via the facility of hub-pages.

A hub-page is a site where you can add a one-page piece of content i.e. a blog post and include anchor text backlinks to your blog.

Examples of hub-pages include:

www.hubpages.com

www.Squidoo.com

www.wordpress.com

Hub-pages are very highly ranked by the search engines and they provide your blog with quality backlinks.

Your mini hub-page network will be spread out over the web to help focus the search engines and visitors towards your blog.

Does Your Blog Cry?

Your blog craves…

blog cryingtraffic

…subscribers

…back and internal links

…daily stroking

Without the above your blog will be upset, feeling very lonely…in fact…CRYING!

Now…let’s just say you had a magic wand and you could wave it over your blog…say some magic words like…”azaam bezaam zezaam” and hey presto, suddenly your blog had:

1,000,000 visitors a day

100,000 subscribers

500,000 back and internal links

And you knew exactly what to do each day to keep your blog growing.

How would your blog feel then?

Link Building Campaign: Factors To Be Aware Of

quality back linksThe concept of link building has more to do with the quality of links rather than quantity.

Hence, it is extremely important that you do not crowd your site with numerous irrelevant links.

Over time of course, you are going to have inbound links from irrelevant sites and that doesn’t matter. Your AIM is to have more backlinks from quality relevant sites than non-relevant sites.

Some other precautions that you should keep in mind while launching a link building campaign are:

  1. Generate links from both “old trusted” as well as new sites.

Link Building Campaign: Why Is It Important

link building campaign1Over the new few weeks, I shall be sharing my thoughts on my Link Building Campaign via a series of blog posts.

This is the first one and it simply outlines why a Link Building Campaign is important.

Some say, the Page Rank of your blog is the make or break factor for it.

They go on to say, the Page Rank or numeric value that Google assigns to a blog denotes its importance on the web and plays a deciding role in its visibility in the top search displays for the optimized keywords.

Are Your Blog Posts Indexed?

7dollarecoverIt can take a little while before Google comes along and starts to index your blog and add it to their search engines.

Just because we:

  • Add the Google XML sitemap plugin
  • Verify our blog via Google’s Webmaster tools
  • Add numerous blog posts each week
  • Ping numerous directories
  • Add internal links

BUT…have you ever looked at the stats to see exactly what Google has indexed on your blog?

You may be surprised with the difference.

As of today, I have 342 different URL’s in my site map.

Push Your Blogs Pleasure Buttons

stuffing faceWhat’s your favorite food?

Chocolate?

Chips?

McD’s?

Whatever it is, when you eat it, it gives you pleasure, right?

Now what about your blog?

What is your blog’s favorite food?

Visitors?

Backlinks?

Comments?

And one way to get your blog moaning with pleasure by providing more visitors, more backlinks and even more comments is via guest posting.

Now I’m not going to write another blog post about the benefits of guest posting.

You can find that sort of information by clicking on these links:

“Nice Post”

commenting on blogsOver the New Year I’ve been so busy with the Income Blogging Guide Membership Course launch I’ve not written any ‘reflecting’ or ‘looking forward’ type blog posts.

You know the sort of ones where you talk about your mistakes and success in 2009 and what you hope to achieve in 2010.

I will get around to writing such blog posts because 2009 was a life changing year for me and I am hoping for a great 2010.

But today I want to discuss ‘comments’.

How you make your blog index quicker, build backlinks and increase your traffic with a task that takes 2 minutes and you only have to do it once

index blogDo you like the title?

It’s true.

By using the following step-by-step approach, it will make your blog index quicker in the search engines, build powerful backlinks and can provide a steady stream of organic traffic.

How?

Using RSS Directories.

RSS Directories hold millions of links to websites and blogs and are some of the most visited websites on the internet.

By adding your blog’s RSS feed to the RSS Directories, every future blog post you add to your blog, will automatically be added to the RSS Directory. And that means it could potentially be seen by thousands of visitors and your blog will receive a powerful backlink from the RSS Directory.

Increase traffic and backlinks with this free tool

increase trafficLeaving comments on high profile and popular blogs is no secret to getting more traffic and backlinks to your own blog.

However there is one issue…

Very often, especially on those very popular blogs, by the time you get to comment you could be the 30th or 100th person to comment.

You still get the backlink (assuming they ‘do follow’) but you won’t get any traffic. Who reads all 50 comments?

Not many.

Myself, I tend to read the first 5 or 6 and that’s it.

Traffic effects as a result of my guest blog post

I am no longer famous!

My guest post is no longer on the front page of problogger.net

Ah well!

I shall just have to ask Darren to post another one!

You can read more here about my 15 minutes of blogging fame: guest post at ProBlogger

Anyway I thought I would share with you the effect it had on my blog traffic and sign-ups to my new free giveaway, “How to make a blog”.

The post was on the front page for 5 days.

During those 5 days, I received 137 visitors directly from Problogger.

WordPress plugins worth adding to your blog

Another month since my last post on what plugins I recommend you add to your blog and here’s a bunch more for your consideration. Hope a few give your blog some benefits:

Better Blogroll

This plugin allows you to display a configurable number of random links from your WordPress blogroll. This should help to combat link blindness while still letting you to share the link love with more of your favorite blogs.

Have a look on the right hand side of this blog under heading ‘fav links’, you’ll see 6 of my favourite links. Click the “refresh” button and a different combination of six will be displayed.
