5 Ways to Keep Your Blog Content Fresh

5 Ways to Keep Your Blog Content FreshThis is a guest post by David Walker who blogs about how to make money online.

If you want to guest post on this blog, check out the guidelines here.

If you’re in need of fresh new content for your blog, then there are a number of strategies that you can use in order to get it. Just sitting down and writing might not be the best idea because you can quickly find yourself running out of things to say, especially if you don’t have something in particular to write about.

Here are some great tips that will help keep your blog content fresh:

1. Take one topic idea then brainstorm it.

Perhaps one of the easiest ways to come up with new blog content is to revisit some of the old posts that you have created in order to see if there are any related topics that you can discuss. You might find numerous things to write about when you brainstorm the ideas that you previously researched and discussed. In many cases you will discover new and exciting things to write about just by briefly brainstorming a previous post that you created.

2. Update previous posts.

Another way that you can create fresh content for your blog is by revisiting old posts and making updates where necessary. You might find information that is out of date or incorrect when you re-visit past posts. This gives you the opportunity to update the information that is there and give your posts a fresh new look that your visitors and search engines will greatly appreciate.

3. Ask your readers to submit questions.

Another effective strategy for getting fresh new content to your blog or website involves asking your readers or visitors to submit questions of their own. By allowing them to do so you are gathering topics that you may or may not have thought about discussing. Chances are your readers or visitors will submit some unique questions that you can answer which will end up as great new content that you can add to your blog.

4. Allow guest posts.

You might also turn to others for help when you need fresh new content for your blog. If you allow guests to post on your blog, then they might have some of their own unique and interesting content to add. Writing everything on your own all of the time can become tiresome, which might not result in the best quality material for your blog. Allowing guests to post on your blog simply creates the opportunity of having  new content created for your blog that you might not have written on your own.

5. Hire writers.

If you no longer have the desire to write the material for yourself, or simply don’t have time to write new content for your blog because you are too busy participating in other internet marketing activities, then you might consider hiring writers to create the new content for you. Hiring writers to create new blog content instead of doing it yourself gives you the opportunity to focus your efforts on other more important activities all while still posting great content to your blog.

  3. I’m so glad that you mentioned updating old posts as a way to keep content fresh. Whenever I see a new comment on an old post, I usually see something that needs to be updated or changed. Plus, I love guest posts! I like having different voices on my blog.

The best ways to see that your posts dont die is to get guest blogging. But that unless your blog is a bit popular is not possible. Else try doing automation. There are many paid and free plugins for wordpress that takes content from rss feeds of the original blog.

  6. Also a great way to create new content is to visit related forums, where you don’t have to ask people question about what they want to read, you just have to look at the topic titles (also you can get inspired by what people are replying in their post).

An other great place to get ideas for fresh content is social networks. Where people are only talking about big news.

I like to keep my content fresh by carrying around a little note book. My best posts have always been the ones that I have thought up when I was not about to write a blog post. Sitting on the bus or sitting in a cafe or even just washing the dishes. My mind wanders and I come up with loads of ideas so will jot down a title and couple of pointers to remember till I next get to a computer.

  9. Some great advice there. One thing I find is that being passionate about the subject matter, or making it a part of your lifestyle, is a great way to keep the content fresh. My site is dedicated to collecting and using spent coffee grounds for gardening, and I’m in the garden all the time. So not too hard to keep the new ideas coming along all the time, and I would recommend this approach to everyone.

  10. Great tips!

I think that one of the good ways to create fresh content for your blog is find different perspectives to an existing topic. You might have a topic A, but when you combine that with topic B, you have a fresh perspective to that certain subject.

For example, you may be writing about productivity, but if you mix that with how bloggers can improve their productivity or how 9-5 workers can improve their productivity, you have two different topics written from different angles.

I have real issues with #5. If/When it comes time to hire out all the writing, you’re done as a blogger…or at least calling yourself one.

  12. I have not tried #3- I have often asked readers’ questions but have not asked them to submit questions, which is a great idea! I agree with guest posting- not only does it provide fresh new content to your site but can in turn give you a break to think of fresh new material.

  13. Hi David,

Great tips you’re sharing here. I need to start allowing guest posts on my blog. I’m definitely not keen on #5 – hiring writers. It’s not the best option for my blog.

Thanks for sharing your insights, David.

  15. Hi David!

I definitely like #3! I recently read that the blog commenters are usually the vocal minority, and for the longest time it was only those who spoke up were heard and counted. Yesterday I came across another blog which mentioned posting surveys or personality quizzes that are relevant to your blog. That way you engage the silent readers (or tempt them to participate) in a fun, different way.

Have you had any experience with this one?

  17. It isn’t very easy to make a fresh content daily for the fact that it is not also always that our brain is in good condition. I guess hiring a writer is the best option if you do not have any passion in writing. Updating your blogs is imperative and entertaining commenters is also important. I know a very good blogger and he would usually say that guest posting is effective.

  18. Great post..Well your tips and strategies are very effective that help to keep your content more fresh and unique and in this way more users come to your site.

  19. Hi David,
The ways you mentioned above are simple and easy to do! Allowing guest posts sure does work when it comes to having new content when you can’t find time to make one yourself.
    Thanks for sharing!
