Sometimes, the thought of adding a new post to your blog on the same old subject can make you feel completely sick.
It’s not enough that you have to immerse yourself in your chosen industry, but then you have to pick up your keyboard and tell everyone else what you have learned.
Despite all the tools available for making your blog great, there is not yet a perfect solution for generating quality copy, without you having to sit down, think and type (unless you outsource your writing, of course).
So, what do we do when blog boredom strikes?
Here are my tips to stay good friends with your blog, no matter how jaded you have become with it…
Widen your own reading
It’s important to stay fresh and current if you want to retain your loyal readership, so get out there and broaden your own knowledge.
When you hit on something that really gets you going, the chances are you’ll be enthused enough to inject a boost in to your own writing, through your passion for the subject.
If things just aren’t working for you, change the subject themes a little to reflect what you are most interested in.
Research what the experts do
How do the best blogs keep their content lively and stay interesting after they’ve been running for a few years?
Check out some of your favorite blogs and see what techniques they use to stay current and engaging. The chances are you’ll find some inspiration, and you can adapt their techniques for your own blog and insert a little sparkle in to your online presence, with a fresh perspective.
Switch to video
For those of us who have been blogging for a while, switching to the occasional video is a superb way of keeping ourselves busy with a new and interesting way of giving out information.
Your readers will thank you, as it provides a change, and you also benefit from having a good laugh when you create your video post, and enabling YouTube and other search engines to pick up on an alternative communication stream.
Side note: I went out to dinner with friends on Saturday and they mentioned they had seen my video posts and had a good laugh!
Try microblogging
Instead of writing a 500 word post, why not switch sometimes to the world of the microblogger?
Use Twitter wisely and you can maintain interest for your readers, and alert them to new events or pass on information and links without sitting down to write a lengthy article.
It’s not blog laziness – it’s a savvy way of keeping people updated!
Let your images speak for you
It’s said that a picture speaks a thousand words, so if you are feeling a little fed up with writing, try sourcing some great pictures.
You can also use diagrams, charts and flows to demonstrate what you are trying to tell people, and a good well-placed image can save you time, effort and words, while livening up your posting space and catering for those among us who don’t like wading through vast reams of text.
Invite guest bloggers in
This isn’t cheating, it’s a great way of broadening the scope of your blog, introducing alternate perspectives on a familiar theme, and lending a new voice to your writing.
By inviting other people to write on your behalf, you gain all the benefits of sharing your space with some of the leaders in your industry, making your site varied, interesting and refreshing for your long-standing readers.
Add some functionality
Gadgets are cool. By updating your blog to include some new and funky widgets, you’ll gain pleasure from watching them at work, and be excited about your site again.
Look around at what other people are using, and see which WordPress plugins you can use to liven your site up and reawaken your enthusiasm for your own blog.
I hope that if you are a little bored with your blog, with the tips above that you’ll fall in love with blogging again and be ready to hit the ground running with a fresh burst of enthusiasm.
Let me know how you get on! Please share your views in the comments below.

I have been online since 1996 and in that time I have been involved in the development of almost 400 web sites for my clients. I have worked with a wide variety of vendors and I have to tell you that Andrew @ We Build Your Blog has far exceeded my expectations. In addition to his vast knowledge and expertise, he is a genuinely great guy, who always goes the extra mile. I highly recommend him, in fact I only recommend him now for web development.
Andrew is highly knowledgeable about blogs, and you can get your blog up and running successfully and fast. Andrew has helped me immeasurably with my blog and he is patient and good natured and a wonderful teacher.
The end result is a fantastic site that is attracting a lot more attention and visitors than my old one.
I approached Andrew in February 2010, because I needed to enhance the way I communicated my business.
Andrew is an asset to our ongoing website and social media needs. He responds quickly, accurately, and cost effectively. Andrew plays a consultative role in many aspects to our online needs.
The best blog builder, and the best blog maintenance, I've ever met is Andrew Rondeau. This fellow is an authentic professional in every sense of the word. He's lightning fast, knowledgeable, competent, a skilled listener. He goes the extra mile. He's able to share his passion for his work and products without being pushy. He as other great internet skills, too, but his most impressive attribute is mastery of website building.
Andrew is the real deal and he knows his stuff! His customer service is superb and he gets your work done FAST! You won't need to wait around for endless weeks to see results. Most importantly he works on the site as if it's his own, thus you are assured that you will get the best quality service. I now give Andrew all of my new and old sites to work on. Trust me; you cannot go wrong with this gentleman!
I am very happy to provide a testimonial for Andrew Rondeau. All the parts of the process of working with Andrew were a pleasure. He clarified what I was wanting and he delivered it without fuss. He was courteous and prompt in all his dealings with me. I have no hesitation in recommending Andrew to anyone who wants work done on their blog.
I've spent insane amounts of money in the past with former webmasters until I discovered Andrew Rondeau.
I was introduced to Andrew by a dear friend Corinne Edwards and Andrew as transformed by blog in ways that have reaped results. My membership has gone up and my blog always looks clean and easy to read. Whenever I send Andrew a request to check out - it's ALWAYS prompt and easy to understand. In my humble opinion he is the BEST when it comes to knowledge of the blogging world.
I happened to stumble upon Andrew's website (WeBuildYourBlog.com) while searching for blogging services that would help me start my very own blog. I was a total newbie when it came to the blogging world. Fast forward 3 months and not only do I have my own awesome blog, but friends and family are actually asking me how to start their own blog and I am able to set their blogs up for them! In only 3 months under Andrew's guidance I went from total newbie to being sought after. Thanks Andrew!
Andrew was kind enough to offer up his own time as part of an initiative to make the world a better place, and I was one of the beneficiaries of that effort. He spent an hour with me working on improving my bounce rate; he suggested several helpful strategies. Most importantly, he helped me with some key processes to help speed up my site, which had bogged down considerably with overuse of graphics. Andrew helped me get set up with Rackspace, which helped so much. From a load time of almost 30 seconds, the site sped up to about a 6 second load. Thanks so much, Andrew!
I wanted a stylish website that presented my original abstract art in a visually attractive way. Andrew came highly recommended to me as a "no nonsense" practitioner. He does exactly what he says he will do: I give him the parameters to work within and he provides a quick and precise service. You will receive nothing but the best from Andrew!
Andrew has extensive knowledge about internet marketing, SEO and building web sites/blogs. His course explained everything in an easy to understand way and I now have a web site that is generating me new clients and producing income from internet product sales.
Thank you Andrew for your patience in getting my website and on-line courses on-line and selling. You were fantastic in learning the delivery platform software that I had chosen and you were across the complexities quickly. Your detailed approach in setting guidelines and deliverables bought my focus back to where it should be and got the job done. Thank you for all your efforts it was a pleasure.
Without Andrew, I wouldn't even have a blog -- I would still just be sitting here, staring at my computer, feeling confused and helpless. With Andrew, I no longer fear confusion and it's impossible to feel helpless. He exerts any and all necessary efforts to resolve any problem or perplexity -- quickly, kindly, intelligently, up to and including IM exchanges in real time via skype. I would urge anyone at any level of expertise (or not) to make the most of his extraordinary talent.
Andrew is highly knowledgeable about blogs and very customer service focused. I knew nothing about blogs and Andrew was very kind, patient, pleasant to work with, receptive and responsive. Work was delivered in timely manner and if I need anything done for blog again I would use Andrew. If you are looking for quality work, excellent customer service and someone that really gets YOU and your needs, I recommend Andrew!.
Having worked with Andrew on and off over the last year, I have found him to be very patient, helpful and easy to work with. He is also very knowledgeable, supportive and a true expert.
I was impressed with the excellent service.
I first connected with Andrew in early 2010 as I was looking to start a blog. I didn't do anything straight away as I could not decide what subject to write about. Every so often I contacted him with ideas and found him very honest and helpful. He gave me some great advice and I found him very inspiring because he makes you sit down and think about what it is you really want to do and whether it can work for you online. He gives you all the time you need and you never feel you are taking up too much of his time.
Hi, Andrew Rondeau here and this blog, my blog, will not lie to you. I will give it to you straight. This blog is about blogging, the Internet and sharing my experiences and advice on
I know this feeling. Sometimes you just can’t make yourself push it further. Its a sign that you should recharge your batteries (at least this is the method that works with me).

Its different every time. Usually i just get away from the blog page or whatever it is hard to start doing and do whatever I want at that moment.
It will not work for every person. As for me, I later manage to start doing what I need to. It has drawbacks, but so far it works.

Just like anything we do for a long time, we need to change things up a bit for variety. I love it when people guest post on my blog. Fresh perspective! Your blog is on my list of places where I would love to guest post. Life is so busy!
One thing I do to keep blogging interesting is to create interesting titles. I see the commentator before me has the same idea…nice one, Edward!

I don’t see anything wrong with new posts that revolve around a specific popular topic that was posted earlier on your blog if it contains some updated and fresh information, possibly in more understandable fashion.
When you follow a story in a newspaper, it often includes a summary of what you have already read a day ago.

Good point, Andreas.
I think I would ‘convert’ the post to a video to make it different.
Andrew
.-= Andrew @ Blogging Guide´s last blog ..How Do You Beat Blogging Boredom? =-.
I say that whatever you write as long as it provides useful information to the readers or is simply interesting, its ok, even if the topic was covered for a thousand of times on your blog.
.-= Edward Nigma´s last blog ..Charlize Theron – Peach Ice-Cream =-.
Andrew,
These are all great points. I keep a nice little excel sheet open all the time on my browser and every time an idea for a future post strikes me, i jot it down. I have about 20 ideas already put in the backburner.
I think it helps to also break down topics into sub-topics. You can oftentimes reapply the same principles on a more micro level.
Nice post,
Brandon

This is absolutely true. Blogging boredom can come easily in any day. It’s one of the worst feelings and can drain a person mentally. I have observed that one of the biggest causes of blogging boredom is doing repetitious things. To beat it we need to try to plan something new and fresh each time we start blogging to defeat the same bland, uneventful happenings.
For me the image thing always works. When I have the headline but just can’t get myself to write anything usefull, I stop get a cup of coffee and browse for some good images for the post. Just taking that break and doing creative brings the flow back.

Alex,
It can take me more time to find a great image than write a blog post…sometimes.
But I do agree – images make a huge difference.

In addition to the great tips above, a common yet effective way to lessen bordeom is by doing a series. This gives you something to expect as you would think of more exciting ways to beat or outdo the first post. Of course it also gives your readers something to look forward to.

Blog boredom, I think I’ve been hit by it so many times that it become blog laziness altogether, I’m now on my 5th blog and I’ve completely forsaken my previews blogs, Very interesting tips you got there though. And I think I’ll try some of it. I’m very fortunate to have a lot of interest and my blog (My current) tackles a broad range of subject not just one particular niche.

Hi Andrew,
I’ve used several of these strategies – thanks for the reminders!
I find a good filing system and easy ways of capturing sparks of ideas both help enormously. Often, I get a phrase or theme when I’m out and about; I send myself a quick text with a few words and then file that away on paper when I get back to my office. This way, I’ve got a database to draw from, rather than feeling I have to start from scratch each fortnight.
Also, I’m a coach and I like to really listen to my clients’ exact words and use one of their main challenges as the title for a blog post; it means that the content will speak directly to their needs.
With thanks

Andrew,
It is hard to skip the boredom that you are talking about. What works best for me is to sit down and write five or six blog post at a time and then publish them at a future schedule time. That way I get my blog posts worth 2 weeks in around one sitting of hour and a half.
Twitter: andrewrondeau
Peter
I often take that approach as well…writing several blog posts in one go.
Takes me longer than 90 minutes, though!

We’re all humans and therefore, it’s natural for us to get bored at times. As for me, what I do is I forget about blogging or writing for a moment and do a completely different activity. I usually go out for a ride or hang out with friends. Then shortly after, I’ll miss blogging. That’s when I get to be creative and inspired again.
