In simple terms it is a type of website…where you can add your own personal events, thoughts, views, news, photos, videos, “how to’s”… for everyone to see and comment on.

But it’s also much more…you can advertise, you can sell your own things, other peoples and companies products…to make some extra income.

You might read the Magazine, Good Housekeeping…you might not…but just bear with me. Ok, imagine reading your favourite magazine…articles…jokes…puzzles…adverts…letters plus lots more.

Well, a blog can be your version of your magazine but it’s on-line, on the Internet and everyone from across the world can read it, and comment on it…all for free.

PLUS…your blog contains all of your magazines ever produced in its archive.

Now your version of YOUR magazine can be on any subject from your personal travel experiences…to your scientific career…to fishing…to buying and selling mobile phones…to looking after pets…to just a place to put your personal photos.

Your blog can be about absolutely anything…it’s your choice…there are no real rules.

I keep mentioning the word ‘YOUR’…because a blog is normally written by one person only. It is a one-person view on a particular subject.

Like magazines differ from one another…so do blogs. Again there are no rules but you can decide to include articles (your views on certain subjects), photos, fun things, videos, allow comments, adverts…it really is up to you.

I also completed a search for “what is a blog” on www.youtube.com and this one came out tops…it is worth checking out:

This view of a blog is just my view and works for me. I’ve just added to the 212 million definitions found when I search for ‘what is a blog’ using Google.
