Link Building Campaign: Why Is It Important

link building campaign1Over the new few weeks, I shall be sharing my thoughts on my Link Building Campaign via a series of blog posts.

This is the first one and it simply outlines why a Link Building Campaign is important.

Some say, the Page Rank of your blog is the make or break factor for it.

They go on to say, the Page Rank or numeric value that Google assigns to a blog denotes its importance on the web and plays a deciding role in its visibility in the top search displays for the optimized keywords.

And an important factor of your Page Rank score is inbound links to your site.

As inbound links play a vital role in the calculation of the page rank of a site, one needs to understand the importance of link building for improving their page ranking and subsequently drawing more traffic.

Link building refers to the process of securing inbound links to your blog from various other websites and other online sources such as press releases, newsletters, social media, e-zine articles, blogs and directories

The more trusted or high-quality links a site has, the higher the Page Rank and that can improve the placement of your blog in the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Why have a link building campaign?

With the information superhighway, as the Internet was once referred to by former US Vice President Al Gore, being revolutionized by the day, link building has become an integral part of every site’s online marketing strategy.

However, link building in itself is not enough, the trick is in generating quality inbound links that add value to one’s site.

Some of the main advantages of having a link building campaign  are:

  • Proper link building can help the site get quality traffic from relevant sites, which in turn will help your site become a part of the core searches for the targeted keywords
  • Having a number of high-quality inbound links improves the page ranking of a site as it is considered to be offering a valuable service to the reader.
  • Link building not only helps in enhancing the visibility of a site, but also adds to its credibility if the inbound links come from popular or respectable sites.
  • Link building is also an effective strategy to obtain a wider search engine exposure and to get indexed by them to secure a higher engine ranking.
  • Link building helps save advertising cost and time as your having inbound links from well-known sites is an effective means of marketing one’s site in the online space.

    Impressive post Andrew :) I’ve written a post similar to this recently (on my personal blog), and I do think that you have covered most of the things which I believe to be important when it comes to link building.

    1. to have optimized keywords rank higher
    2. to pass through authority and trustrank
    3. to improve pagerank
    4. visibility and branding (which I believe the most important aspect especially when establishing an expert reputation)

    Overall, you have delivered this post exactly the way I wanted to have mine, it’s just that I’m not that good with words :)

    Very good summation of the proponents of link building. What would be a nice addition is where the quality links can be found. But then again, if this were public then the ‘quality’ turns into ‘mediocre!’

    This is going to be a very interesting series for me since I really know little about link building.

    For example, when you make a comment like I am doing today – is that a back link because you have comment luv?

    If you make a comment on a really large blog, is that more valuable?

    I think in your next chapter in this series, you should go really basic and answer the question.

      When it comes to commentluv sites (like this one) – most are also ‘DoFollow’ which means they do provide a backlink to your site with some ‘Google’ link luv.

      One thing you could do when you are adding a comment on such blogs is add your keywords after your name…like I do:

      The phrase ‘Blogging Guide’ then becomes the anchor text for the backlink.

      One thing to add here – comment backlinks are good backlinks but they don’t give a lot of backlink luv – mainly because they are so easy to complete.

      Re: If you make a comment on a really large blog, is that more valuable?

      It depends upon the PageRank (PR) of the blog.

      The higher the better and just because the blog is big doesn’t mean it has a high PR.

    For me link building is mainly about traffic, and gaining page rank as a bonus. I use the following methods:

    - Blog commenting
    - Forum posting
    - Submitting my link to do-follow directories
    - Submitting articles with links in to do-follow article directories

    I’m always keen to learn more so I’ll be reading the rest of this series of articles with great interest. :)

    My site was poorly rank in search engine. Later I did backlinking on some dofollow site which later ranked my site higher on search engine for some keywords which were once bringing no or less traffic. So, backlinking is a must do job for serious blogger

    Link building campaign is really essential if you want to build high quality back links. It helps you to focus on your goals and it’s like a guide in order to achieve high traffic to your site. In my link building campaign, i only not focus on do follow links but also no-follow. It makes your link building campaign look natural. Internet marketers debate if no follow links are useless but in my opinion, it’s plays a vital role in optimization and should not be taken for granted.

    Link building campaign is important and it goes well with fresh and unique content. With link building, I have noticed that we can’t set a definite time frame. It will take a while to show results. I don’t really differentiate between do follow and no follow links. The key is to not overdo link building else Google might penalize the website.
