Blogging and Dieting take a lot Perseverance

blogging perseveranceOver the years my weight has gone up and down like a yo-yo.

Sometimes I’m overweight by 10+ kg and sometimes I’m about right.

But come closer…I want to share something with you…I am much more inclined to be overweight than ‘about right’.

You see I love food like cakes, puddings, and chocolate. I simply cannot resist them.

Last year I gave up the 9-5 corporate world and started to work from home. During 2009, I added 14kg of FAT!

Imagine all that fat in a big pile – it would make you recoil, wouldn’t it?

There was a turning point though.

People who are hooked on drugs or alcohol say they have to hit a really low point before they can change.

Now my situation is nothing like some people find themselves when it comes to drink and drugs but I did have a very low point…

Watching a video of me jumping with the Masai Warriors during my wedding anniversary holiday last year.

You can see some holiday pictures here: Holiday Slide Show

The other tourist guy who ‘jumped’ before me did ok but I thought I could do better.

It was my turn. I thought I did pretty well. My wife was videoing. I finished my jumping. I was proud. I had jumped as high as I could.

We got home and watched the holiday videos. Of course, there was the one of me jumping with the Masai.

Remember when I said I thought I did pretty well. I didn’t. It was awful. It looked like I could hardly life my fat body off the ground.

That was my low point. I had to do something about it. I was so overweight.

To see how I started to lose weight, you can read my guest post at Daniel Scocco’s Daily Blog Tips, entitled, “What Has Blogging Got To Do With Losing Weight?”

Since that blog post was published I have lost another 6kg.

In you find yourself in a similar situation, simply watch this fun video and the weight will simply fall off:

  1. Hmm – ironically I went from bobbing about doing household chores – cleaning, mowing etc to a nine to five (thirty) whilst ‘working at home’ and I have gained two whole stone – that’s even with lunchtime Gym sessions.

    Wise words

    EAT LESS

    MOVE MORE

Oh my, those cookies in the video kinda made me hungry :) I’m sure that wasn’t the purpose of the video…

I better head over and read that blog post, after which you lost 6KG – thanks for the tip.

Your post describes well the bind that so many of us are in as we live more sedentary lives sitting in front of a computer screen. Believe me, I know how difficult it is to lose weight (and that low point of realizing that you are truly, undeniably FAT).
Congrats on losing 6 kgs! I am truly happy for you. When I hit my low point, I was quite a bit overweight and therefore know how good it feels to be shedding those pounds. It wasn’t easy by any means but with determination and a positive attitude I not only lost that extra weight but have also made a career out of helping others get to where they could enjoy jumping with the Masai.

      Chuck,

Must admit, the first few weeks in my training were tough. Now I’m a little fitter and leaner, I actually enjoy going to the gym.

I’ve still got another 6kg to go.

Great you have made a career out of it.

Starting out is always the most difficult stage in losing weight because it’s such a big change for our bodies. Once we make it a habit, though, our bodies also get used to and look forward to exercise. Once someone can get to that point where they enjoy exercising (like yourself), they have cleared a pretty important hurdle.

  4. Haha the youtube clip is just awesome. You know it sounds mean but most people are just like that always looking for the magix pill and trying to avoid the “not so nice” part at all cost.

I like the way you always combine blogging with something in the “real” world.

  5. Sometimes I think: ah, forget losing weight, just eat cake and be happy! Except, apart from those few seconds when I’m munching cake, I’m not that happy. It gets to a point where you don’t want people to take photos of you, don’t want to be captured forever looking like that. That’s when you should do something, not because someone else says you should. Good blog :)

This video cracks me up … I have it saved on a list of future posts and I really enjoyed seeing it again. LOL. I have let 20 lbs creep on over the last 6 years … just inched my way up there *sigh* Now I’m determined to lose it all and keep it off. I’ve never lost all the weight I gained from having 3 kids ~ oldest 14 youngest 11 so no more excuses!!!!!!!! I am working out 4 times a week with a trainer and eating healthy (including healthy snacks every few hours) and so far I’ve lost 9 lbs. (17 more to go). Thanks for the encouragement! *huGs* Suzanne

I wish I was as disciplined at dieting as I am at blogging. I’d be a size 6 by now!
