Increase traffic and backlinks with this free tool

increase trafficLeaving comments on high profile and popular blogs is no secret to getting more traffic and backlinks to your own blog.

However there is one issue…

Very often, especially on those very popular blogs, by the time you get to comment you could be the 30th or 100th person to comment.

You still get the backlink (assuming they ‘do follow’) but you won’t get any traffic. Who reads all 50 comments?

Not many.

Myself, I tend to read the first 5 or 6 and that’s it.

If you are going to comment, you want to be one of the first few who do. That way everyone else reading the post will see your comment and that will increase the chances of them clicking on your link and visiting your blog. Even more so, if the comment adds value and doesn’t just say “nice post”.

Oh, I hate those type of comments.

How do you get to be one of the first to comment?

I’ve been using the FREE tool, Comment Sniper for the past few months and it works a treat. As soon as my favourite bloggers publish a blog post, I am immediately informed. A little pop-up box appears in the bottom right corner of my monitor.

I go to the blog, read the post and decide to comment or not. If I do, I am normally the first or second to add a comment and that brings me more traffic (plus the backlink).

How to install Comment Sniper

Step 1. Download Comment Sniper by going to the website and sign up.

Step 2. Wait for the email to arrive. It takes a minute or two. The email contains the link to download the tool and your free license key. Then download the tool. A new file on your PC is downloaded called cs-setup.exe.

Double-click on the ‘exe file and you’ll see a screen like this:

Click ‘run’ to start the installation.

Register the tool once installed and launched using the license key in the email, otherwise you will continue to see the trial screen and be limited to receiving 10 notifications only.

Step 3. Make a list of the most popular blogs in your niche that consistently have a lot of comments on every post. You will need to have RSS feed domain URL for the blogs you want to monitor.

On the blog somewhere will be the RSS icon, something like this:

Just click on that icon and you will be given the RSS feed domain URL for the blog.

Configure Comment Sniper by using the set-up guidelines: How to use Comment Sniper

Step 4. Comment Sniper will now monitor the blogs you have added.

Step 5. Wait and watch out for those screen pop-ups that tell you someone has posted a blog on your favourite blog.

Step 6. Click on the pop-up. Your browser will open the blog post…read the post and add a valuable comment.

Please note, to see good results and a lot of traffic you have to comment on a number of relevant blogs on a regular basis. Over time this can bring loads of traffic to your blog.

I hope this works for you. Please let me know what you think and comment below on your results.

  1. I use Comment Sniper. It’s a great little tool and best of all, it’s free. The only problem I have is that because I live in Australia most of the bloggers have put up their latest blogs while I am asleep so I miss out leaving my comment first.

    • Paula,

I have that problem as well – sometimes – by living in the UK. But I still get to comment first on many others.

  2. All the little details that you leave are really helping me with my blog. I did set up comment sniper and now that you explained just how to use it I am have having some results. Keep up the good work at helping us non techenical people with our blogs. It is just great the way you lead us in the right direction. Thank you so much

  3. That blasted comment sniper would not download on my computer, so I am using a free one called E Gadget Alert. It works just fine. It checks for new blog posts every 5 minutes. I love it!

I love the concept though. It is helping me to comment quickly.

Well I did not use comment snipet. But as you said really this tool is great. I always try to make comment first on problogger.net. But when I get RSS mail from problogger.net I see already lots of comment on that post. So regarding to this problem, I think this tool will be great help for me.

  5. i had never used this tool. now i will give a try

  6. A SUPPORTED BY THE DEVELOPER TOOLS? It was interesting. You seem very knowledgeable in ypour field.

  7. Keep working ,great job!

  8. This is a tool I’ve heard about but never used. Sounds like it’s worth trying. I live in the UK and often find that when I receive update emails from the blogs I follow the post is already littered with comments. Sometimes Facebook and Twitter can be good for “getting in early”, as long as you’re around when the first tweet or FB update is sent out.

Thanks for the tip on this one, I’m off to download it.

  9. Hi Andrew,

Just dropping by again to say that I’m having problems getting Comment Sniper to work on a Vista laptop. It seems there is compatibility issues. I’ve done a few searches and it appears to be a common problem. I’ve tried installing CS using the Vista Compatibility Wizard but guess what – it doesn’t work!

I’ll try installing it on my old XP laptop to see if that works.

    Any tips of this?

      • Hi Andrew,

The good news is I managed to install and run it on my XP laptop. There’s still problems on Vista, it won’t allow access to the config.dat file so I’m guessing it’s a Vista problem. I often have the XP laptop running too, so I don’t mind using it on that.

Thanks also for dropping by my blog, commenting and tweeting. It’s appreciated.

I see from your LinkedIn profile you’re in Brighton. I’m in Manchester. There are times when I much would much rather be down on the south coast!

Sounds like a great tool but i can’t run in windows 7. Too bad i can’t use this tool. I was hoping i could try this. It seems like a great software to help me in my back linking strategy.
