People start their blogs for a variety of reasons. Some simply have something to say and want to share their passions. Others want to write about their experiences. And others are hoping, by blogging, it gives them a much wanted life-style. Some freedom and, of course, some blog income.
But no matter what the reason, blogging involves writing and writing is a gift.
Some have the natural ability to write and engage their readers. Others have to learn, work hard and perhaps attend workshops to improve.
Over the next few days I shall share my opinions and experiences of writing.
So let’s start…
What are the top topics people search for on the internet which you could write about?
1. Let’s make some extra money
This isn’t necessarily about making more money. It can also be about saving money. I remember a few years ago, when I reviewed all my monthly outgoings. I saved over £200 a month by changing mortgage providers, canceling certain outgoings that I no longer needed, etc. That’s the same as getting a £4500 pay rise.
So if this your chosen area, don’t just think about how you help people make MORE money, think how you could help people SAVE money, as well.
If you can do that, people will listen, read and buy from you.
2. Personal success
We are all looking for things to improve our lives. We want things to be easier, less stressful, have more time, have more freedom or be better at a particular skill.
If you can show people how to improve their lives, they will come back to blog time and time again.
3. Weight Loss / Fitness
Weight loss is easy, isn’t it? Eat fewer calories than what you burn off. That’s the secret. That might be true but it’s “how?” we all want to know.
Millions of people want to be fitter, healthier, thinner and will pay a lot of money to achieve that.
Prove that you have lost weight, tell people how you did it, and you could make a lot of money.
4. Finding LOVE!
Not only do we want to be better (personal success), healthier, we also want companionship. We want relationships, we want some love in our lives.
Show individuals how to find love and you are in a hot selling niche.
5. Personal problems
How many issues, hassles, problems do you have to deal with in a normal day?
Research shows, 20 years ago the average was 3.
20 years ago you would have to deal with 3 ‘changes’ to your plans each day. And a ‘change’ can be defined as something that YOU weren’t expecting to happen.
How many do you think the average is today?
5, 10, 20?
29 is the answer.
29!
And when we face those 29 ‘problems’, sometimes we don’t know what to do. So we look on the internet for information and advice.
Could be ‘how to change a leaking tap’ or ‘upgrade the memory on my pc’.
Help people overcome their problems and you are onto a winner.
6. Our free time
You’d think with work, with personal improvement and the problems we face everyday, we wouldn’t have time for some fun, wouldn’t you?
Well we do!
We all like to relax, enjoy ourselves, and have a hobby.
A lot of people spend a lot of money on their hobbies. What’s yours? You could start a blog about it.
7. Cooking
How many cooking and recipe books do you have?
On my kitchen shelf, I have about 25 (and I use about 3 recipes from each!).
We love recipe books, don’t we? We like to think we are Gordon Ramsay in the kitchen.
According to Market Samurai, the word “recipes” is search for 1.5 million times every single day and “Cooking” is searched for over half a million times.
That makes this niche a huge market.
Could you create a unique recipe eBook and sell it?
Of course, these are just some of the top, hot niches that people the world over, are interested in.
You could start in one of these areas.

We are talking about the number of things that you experience every day that you didn’t expect to happen. Some of those will be very minor.
For instance, already this morning, my internet is really slow because I have a problem with one of my routers. I burnt the toast and had to start again and it’s raining and the weather forecasters said it would be a lovely sunny day and we have plans to go out with friends.
Now they are fairly minor issues I face but for each one I have to make a decision.
The types of ‘changes’ we face I refer to with regards to what to write about are not ‘how to deal with burnt toast’! More like a dripping tap or my car won’t start or how do I change the broken door on my washing machine.
So yes 29 does sound high but…count the unexpected things that happen to you over the next few days, no matter how trivial and I bet you get close!

Think of a subject matter and think, “can I see myself writing about this subject in 2 years time?”.

No matter what you choose as your topic. I would have to say you must be passionate about it. Blogging about something you are not will definitely see failure and these days with Google, looking for original content, the farms that you can normally copy and paste from will soon be out of business.

I agree, bottom line, that passion in a writer is the #1 ingredient. If one writes about what one loves, there is bound to be an audience that will find that passion infectious.
Personally, I found the listed topics boring and I would pass by blog posts about most if not all of those topics.
My blog posts may not attract the most readers and subscribers. But the ones that will follow are the ones that love what I do and the ones that may be interested in building relationships and sharing of information. After all, isn’t that what social media is supposed to be all about?
